The Heavy Spinfusor is an explosive weapon used by the Brute class in the game Tribes: Ascend.

"Spinfusors are the most common weapons found among the tribes, and this one was made bigger and harder hitting." In-Game Description.

Operation[]

Like all Spinfusors the Heavy Spinfusor fires an energized explosive disk in a straight line over a long distance. This projectile explodes on contact with any surface. The weapon fires one shot at a time and must then be reloaded before firing again.

Tactics[]

The Heavy Spinfusor has higher damage and a larger explosion radius than the Soldier's Spinfusor, however due to its lengthy reload time its DPS is similar. The Heavy Spinfusor shines when it comes to trading blows in duelling, where fire rate matters less compared to the damage done with each shot, so make up for the Heavy Spinfusors reload times by ducking behind cover or jumping to avoid return fire until you are able to shoot once more.

One of the advantages of the Heavy Spinfusor (shared if not better than the Soldier's Spinfusor) is its ability to kill all Light classes (Pathfinders, Sentinels and Infiltrators) at full health on a direct hit, making Brutes capable HoFs (Heavy on Flag) and giving them the ability to take out a camping Sentinel with a surprise shot from afar.

Due to the high damage against base structures of 1764 and ammo count of 30 when fully upgraded, the Heavy Spinfusor is able to function very well for keeping enemy the Radar Sensor and Base Turrets down, as the 30 ammo can last a very long time before needing to be refilled. It takes 2 shots to destroy a base level Radar Sensor, and 3 shots to destroy a base level Base Turret. The splash damage radius is often large enough to hit any careless Technicians trying to repair the base asset, and scoring 2 of such splash shots will often kill the Technician in the process.

The good explosion radius, range and damage makes Brutes a feasable substitute for Juggernauts in regard to clearing flag stands of deployables and mines, although the Juggernaut's mortars still remain far superior at killing the enemy HoF.

Due to the unimpressive DPS the Heavy Spinfusor is not very efficient at destroying the enemy Generator. If you have it equipped, switch to the Automatic Shotgun for destroying the Generator, as the Automatic Shotgun will destroy it slightly more quickly while also conserving precious Spinfusor ammo.
